As group 2, our assignment for this project is to deal with interior part of museum. Our part covers an area of 3 floors including the basement, museum part and gallery part giving in total area of 10.346 m2. However, the basement part is empty at the moment and we think that we should give another function to it and connect it with the rest of the museum.
The present condition of the museum is well conserved in terms of construction but in our opinion certain intervention regarding the displaying images and artifacts is necessary in order to present items in a better way. The collection of museum part consists of various number of images that are retrospectively displayed. Images show the development of Salt Factory Tuzla and the life of workers and their activities from its establishment in 1885 to the time of late 1980s. Also, there are many artifacts that are conserved in original state such as samples of different packages, the small machinery and equipment they used, the working clothes and several physical models showing overall appearance of same part of Factory of Salt Tuzla. However, according to our observations, the way these significant items are displayed should be changed in order to present it in a better way. At the present state most of the images are displayed either on the white boards or hang on the wall. Since the museum space is limited and narrow in plan, we will also use walls but with another background and illumination to emphasize images that are mostly black and white. Also, it is important to present them retrospectively to create a story-telling-like exhibition which will lead an observer throughout our museum. The artifacts are displayed in glassed boxes and placed along museum retrospectively following the displayed images. We agreed to change the way of presenting artifacts because some special emphasis should be oriented towards some of the items. We will achieve this by using glassed boxes with subtle illumination where necessary. When we climb upper floor, we come to a waiting area which is placed before the gallery as well as information desk. When we come to the end of hall, there are 2 separated spaced and one of them is not used at the present state while the other one is used as an exhibition area. In terms of construction and functionality, the gallery part is well preserved and organized, but we will try to find a way to better display paintings and images that are part of the collection at the moment. We will achieve this by illuminating space and creating different effects depending on the items. Also, we will use LED displays to give an opportunity to visitors to easily browse through museum and gallery.
When it comes to overall appearance of the museum, certain interventions need to be done, in order to connect these three floors to have more functional space. In addition, we will try to use bright colors to create illusion of bigger space but in a same time we will use some strong color to stress important things.
